Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors in journalism, among them an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. She reported on a variety of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal and traveled extensively with President Reagan for summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
